- National Governors Association, Writing training, editing, personal writing coaching. January 2002 - Present
— I've delivered customized writing training workshops for more than 100 staffers at this major US lobbying organization. I also edited a large volume of content for NGA’s online clearinghouse on education policy. I regularly provide writing coaching for NGA policy analysts and lobbyists. - Poynter Institute, E-Media Tidbits contributor, 2001-present

— I have worked with SEJ since 1991 in many capacities. Currently, I contribute to SEJ TipSheet, a biweekly roundup of environmental news story leads and resources for journalists. I also coordinate major networking events at SEJ's annual conference. I founded and for several years managed SEJ's members-only e-mail discussion group. I also served a term on SEJ's board of directors, and formerly edited (and occasionally still contribute to) the group's quarterly newsletter SEJournal. - National School Boards Association, conference workshop, July 2003
— I created and delivered a two-hour workshop entitled "Effective Online Media Outreach" for representatives of approximately 30 state school board associations. This presentation was extensively customized with examples and exercises relevant to this unique audience.

— I created and delivered two half-day workshops for this prestigious international organization. One was about writing for the Web, and the other focused specifically about using the Web to conduct effective media outreach. - Writers Digest Magazine, ePublishing column co-author, 2001-2002
— On alternate months I wrote this column for the leading North American magazine about writing for writers. (My co-author: Steve Outing) The ePublishing column offered guidance about the craft of writing for online media, understanding and pursuing online markets, and avoiding professional pitfalls in the online content world.
- 1mage ("One Image") Software, Content consulting and newsletter launch
— Beginning with a site content critique, I helped this document imaging/management software company to reorganize its site and rework its content. I also created new content (including several case studies based on customer interviews), and played a leading role in launching the company's e-mail newsletter, 1mage News & Views.
- E Source, managing editor, freelance writer.
— During 1994-97 I was Managing Editor of this energy information services company. After that, I continued to freelance for E Source in several capacities. Major projects included researching and writing white papers on customer relationship management (CRM), online learning, online home energy audits, communicating online with small businesses, and other information-age topics of interest to the electric utility industry. I also wrote news stories for two E Source e-mail publications: EBiz News and Small Business News.

— For more than two years I prepared and edited InFocus (a monthly opt-in e-mail newsletter with a circulation of more than 100,000). I also consulted to Kodak on a wide variety of e-mail and Web publishing projects.

— I created an internal style guide for Nortel's Web site.
- Freelance Writing, Various Publications
— I authored the twice-monthly "Saying It Well" column about online content ideas for small Web sites published in the Trellix Cafe – the online community center (now defunct) for Trellix, a Web site software company.
— I have written several book reviews for Tomorrow, an international bimonthly magazine of sustainable business. - Former Staff Postion: Managing Editor, Energy User News, 1991-1995
— I started as a tech reporter at this respected monthly trade magazine on nonresidential energy efficiency, and within two years became managing editor. I learned the ropes of business and technical journalism, as well as how to handle contingencies in managing a commercial publication.
